BRIEF NOTE ON THE ACTIVITIES OF OFFICE OF THE
ASST. DIRECTOR OF MINES AND GEOLOGY, PEDDAPALLI
The main functions of this office are Mineral investigative, Mineral Administrative, Mineral Advisory and Mineral Revenue Earning for state exchequer. This office receives and process the mineral concession applications, collects mineral revenue and controls unauthorized quarrying and transportation of minerals.
MINERAL OCCURRENCES:
- Major Minerals: The available major minerals in Peddapalli district are Coal and Limestone
- Coal: Deposits of Coal available in Godavarikhani near Ramagundam and exploitation started from the year 1960 and it is non-coking and contains high ash and moisture.
Limestone: Limestone occurs in Takkalapally & Putnoor Villages of Palakurthy Mandal. M/s Kesoram Cements Ltd., presently mining for limestone for manufacture of cement.

Minor Minerals: The available minor minerals in Peddapalli district are
Black/Colour Granite, Building Stone & Road Metal and Gravel/ Morrum /Ordinary earth.
- Colour Granite: Coffee Brown variety of dimensional stone for cutting and polishing purpose is under extraction in Sulthanabad, Odela and Dharmaram Mandals. Black Granite variety of dimensional stone for cutting and polishing purpose in Julapalli Mandal. The Granite available in the district has good market both locally and in other countries.
- Building Stone & Road Metal: The Building Stone & Road Metal is used in Road Works and other civil construction works and is available in Palakurthy, Peddapalli, Dharmaram, Sultanabad, Ramagiri & Julapalli Mandals in Peddapalli District.
- Gravel/Morrum/Ordinary Earth: Gravel/ Morrum / Ordinary Earth available in the central and north part of the Peddapalli District, which is useful for manufacture of Earth Bricks in Peddapalli and Sulthanabad Mandals of the District.

SAND FOR LOCAL USE (Sand Taxi Policy):
The main concept of the sand taxi policy is to supply sand to the local households and ISLs at affordable price and also to curb the illegal extraction and transportation of sand in the District. M/s Center For Good Governance (CGG) is monitoring the software for sand taxi on the name of “Mana Isuka Vahanam” (MIV).

The Mining Lease holders, Quarry Lease holders and Government Engineering departments (Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project, Railways, R&B, Panchayathraj Department, etc.,) have contributed an amount of Rs.812.27 Crores towards DMFT as on 31.01.2025. The District Collector is the Member Secretary, Chief Planning Officer is the Member Convener, District Rural Development Officer is the Member Treasurer for District Mineral Foundation Trust, Peddapalli. Developmental works are being taken up in the district in the affected areas under DMFT.
